Jean, Pittsylvania County like all school systems in the state currently follows requirements put forth by the Virginia High School League.

But some feel the school system should go a step further and raise the academic level for student athletes.
One parent recently pointed out that students only have to achieve a "D" to pass a class and therefore be eligible to play sports.

Currently, the county requires student athletes to pass three classes the previous semester in order to be on a team.
One school board member is proposing that students now be required to pass all four subjects.
The students would also have to have fewer than two behavioral office referrals.

A motion for stricter academic requirements came up at a March school board meeting but the board voted the measure down because it first wanted to get input from students, parents, and the faculty.

He was deported from Mexico today after a bounty hunter located him in Puerto Vallarta. A jury convicted Luster of drugging and raping three women in Ventura County, California. He was sentenced to 124 years in prison, but he was not around to hear that-- he fled the country during a recess. Luster's attorney appealed the decision, but a court set it aside because an appeal cannot be heard if the defendant is a fugitive. Now that he's back, his lawyer is asking the state's highest court to reinstate that appeal.

By law in Naples, a temporary permit must be purchased each time something like a lemonade stand goes up--at 35 dollars apiece. So, Abigail's mom went to the city code enforcement office to buy a permit. Not wanting to be sour, the city gave her a stack of permits--for free.
