Members will be paid 200- dollars a week during the first two weeks of striking. That will be bumped up to 300- dollars during the third week. There's also an allotment for employees who have insurance emergencies before an agreement is reached. The union voted to strike Saturday after ITT presented members with a contract they say offered LESS than the one that just expired.

The A-C-C Presidents hit the phones again yesterday in an effort to come to an agreement about expansion. Although the next scheduled teleconference isn't until at least Tuesday, the options are apparently down to just adding Miami, or adding the Canes, Tech, and either Boston College or Syracuse. In the meantime, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has sent letters to the defendants in the ACC Big East lawsuit. The letters ask for a meeting to take place between both sides as early as today to start depositions in the case.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule this week on affirmative action at colleges and universities, but one Virginia school is already scaling back its academic programs for minorities. Virginia Tech has altered 16 race-conscious programs in the past few months. It is also discontinuing a privately funded study abroad program for black students and forcing open a spot in the veterinary college previously reserved for African Americans. The moves were made on the advice of Attorney General Jerry Kilgore's office, which warned the university Board of Visitors last year that they could be personally liable if the school's policies were challenged in court.
