Henry County residents have been given their say. Now their school system must decide which school consolidation plan to approve.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]

There are currently four consolidation plans, each with different options.
[SUPER=03-Henry Co./File Tape;]

One would keep four high schools, others would close one or two.
Under each plan, at least three elementary schools will close.
They include Fieldale, Figsboro, and Spencer-Penn.
As far as the middle schools, one option would close all four.

At a public forum yesterday, county residents got the chance to speak to school board members and administrators one on one.
The school board will review the responses next week, and a final consolidation plan should be in place by this fall.
Once it's decided, it will take effect for the 2004-2005 school year.

Now that Virginia Tech has landed a spot in the A-C-C, new construction plans for Lane Stadium may move forward.

Earlier this month, the university announced construction for the west end expansion was on hold, because of the uncertainty of Tech's future in the Big East conference. University spokesman Larry Hincker says it's a strong possibility that will change, but it's still too early to tell.

The university is moving forward with the design and planning phase of the project, thanks to nearly two-million dollars in donations from Tech alumni.

Tech may be in the A-C-C, but Miami is still weighing its options. President Donna Shalala says the school's reviewing an informal counter-offer from the Big East and crunching the numbers on the proposed 2-team expansion. A final decision is expected no later than Monday.

Investigators will try to determine what caused this plane crash yesterday in Giles County. Officials say the cropduster was spraying the area for gypsy moths, when engine trouble led to a forced landing near Pearis Mountain.
The plane hit a pile of rocks before coming to rest. The pilot, who is from Pennsylvania, was released after hospital treatment.
