The Roanoke City school board got an earful tonight.
Supporters of a police officer who was recently reassigned are demanding he get his old job back.
They say Officer Butch Lewis is being punished for speaking out.

Supporters are asking the school board to endorse having officer Lewis reinstated.
Chairwoman Gloria Manns pointed out the school board has no say because officer Lewis falls under the city police department therefore it is Chief Joe Gaskins decision.
She also believes it would be a bad precedent for the school board to get involved in other department's business.

Melinda Payne says she will introduce a resolution at the next meeting asking the police chief to reverse his decision.

Patrick Henry has been a focus of parental concern since questions about school violence were first raised earlier this year.
Despite the controversy, principal Peter Wonson says nothing has shaken his confidence that the school remains safe.

American Electric Power wants to pass on some savings to its customers.
The utility says the cost of fuel for power plants is going down.

The F-B-I apprehended the Elsakaan (El-sa-kahn) brothers at the Greyhound station March 3rd on their way to New York City. They'd come from Tennessee where one of the men was spotted taking pictures at a Hydroelectric Dam near Knoxville. It turned out the two were among 40 individuals who used the same Henrico County address to obtain phony I-D cards from Virginia's D-M-V.

Former Senator Strom Thurmond was buried in Edgefield, South Carolina where he was born. People lined the road to bid the former South Carolina senator farewell. Vice President Dick Cheney praised Thurmond for his dedication to America. Thurmond ran for president as a segregationist a half-century ago, but during his 48 years on Capitol Hill he changed his views on civil rights. Strom Thurmond died Thursday at the age of 100.

A roller coaster ride stalled nearly 137 feet in the air today leaving more than two dozen riders stranded for about two hours at the Six Flags amusement park in Maryland. The car got stuck on an incline. Everyone was eventually lowered to the boarding terminal where medical crews were standing by. There are no reported injuries. A spokesman from the Fire Department said the problem was due to a mechanical failure. The rollercoaster will remain closed until they can figure out the cause of the malfunction.
