Administrators cite declining enrollment, aging buildings, and a loss of local funding of more than 2 1/2 million dollars in just two years as reasons behind the decision.

Under this option, the school system would close four elementary schools and one middle school.

The Roanoke City School Board says it did not intend for Resource Officer Butch Lewis to be reassigned when it sent a letter to Police Chief Joe Gaskins.
And in a new letter to Gaskins, Chairman Gloria Manns says some members of the board believe the officer's return to Patrick Henry would be an asset to the school and the community.

Two Army National Guard Soldiers from Franklin County are recovering from injuries from their service in Iraq.
21- year- old Lindsey Perdue of Rocky Mount sustained injury to his arm about ten days ago.
His parents were told their son was sent to a military hospital in Germany, but have been unable to talk to doctors about his condition.
Wes Heims, of Wirtz, was injured Tuesday in a separate incident.
The Perdue's say Heims was hurt in an explosion when the Hum-Vee he was traveling in was attacked.
Both men are juniors at Emory and Henry College.

To add to the hundreds of classic cars cruising up and down Williamson Road, the Mayor is selling food from the era like the Buddy Boy Burger, the Longfella sandwich, and strawberry pie.
It all kicks off at 7-pm tonight at the Lendy's former location in the 56-hundred block of Williamson Road.
