He's accused in the October murders of Julian Lewis Jr. and his 25 year old son Charles at their Keeling home.
Prosecutors say Shallenberger and another man, Rodney Fuller, joined Lewis' wife, Theresa, in a murder-for-hire scheme.
Theresa Lewis was sentenced to die for the crime.
Fuller pled guilty and is serving a life sentence.
Shallenberger's trial is expected to last all week.

Officials say no one was gored, and there were only minor injuries, mostly from people falling down or getting stepped on.
Those who are are willing to brave the bulls say they know the dangers.
The running of the bulls dates back to the 16th century when it was the most practical way to get the bulls to the ring for the afternoon fight.
