The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide attempt in the Callands community.

Deputies responded to Strawberry Creek Lane around 3:30 this morning, and found 44 year Leland Ann Philpott shot to death.
Her husband 47 year Benjamin Joseph Philpott was found alive, but with a single gun shot wound to his head.

After a three-week reprieve, Swisher is scheduled to be put to death tonight by lethal injection.

Swisher was originally scheduled to die on July 1st. He was granted a reprieve so his lawyers could pursue claims that his jury used a deficient verdict form.

Rebecca Price's days as Craig County's commissioner of revenue are over. Price has resigned from office and has also agreed NOT to seek re-election as part of an agreement with special prosecutor Joel Branscom. Earlier, this week, she agreed to step down from office and remove her name from the ballot to avoid a felony conviction for check fraud. She also pled guilty to two lesser charges. Price will not serve any time behind bars.

County officials say the company is two months behind in paying its rent and repaying its loans.

Cochrane and Bolling have just a one shot lead over Meg Davies - the JMU golfer who is at 74. Round two of the 54 hole tournament is tomorrow at Hunting Hills with Bolling the one to beat. The final round is Thursday.
