Since 1986 the residents in the tiny village of Thorntown have been looking for Shannon. Saturday a woman claiming to be Shannon--shown here in these age progression photos-- called saying she was the long lost daughter...but Police say 35-year old Donna Walker was the voice on the other end. SGT. DAVE BURSTEN/INDIANA STATE POLICE: "THE PERPETRATOR OF A CRUEL HOAX THAT HAS EMOTIONALLY PHYSCIALLY MENTALLY AND EXAUSTED THE IMMEDIATE AND EXTENDED FAMILY OF SHANNON SHERRILL."
Authorities say Walker made repeated calls to the family, and tracing those calls helped them identify her. Police and Shannon's family are hopeful that even this hoax may prompt real leads in the case. JODY AMES/AUNT:
"WE JUST HOPE SOMEONE WILL COME FORWARD AND HELP US"
Police are charging Walker with identity deception and false informing.
And for now--the missing flyer of shannon remains posted in town hall.
