Checks by businesses and private citizens to pay utility bills were stolen before the city utilities department even got them. No one knew about the crime until people started getting "past due" notices from the city. The checks were altered and cashed at various locations in the Danville area. Police say at least 131 checks have been stolen to this date, but they get more reports every day. If you think your check was stolen, you are asked to call the Danville Police department.
