The weekend's heavy rains have forced a Roanoke road to keep a bridge closed this morning.

The Wise Avenue Bridge near the Vinton line is blocked off because of the effects of Saturday night's flooding.
Authorities say that morning traffic should avoid the area, and the bridge should be reopened later today.

A Roanoke infant drowned in a bathtub over the weekend.
Police say the boy's mother told them she put 10 month old David Anthony Dooley in the bathtub with her 3 year old son, when she went to answer a knock on the door.
When she returned, the younger child was found in the water.
The child was transported to Community Hospital but could not be revived.

Two Danville police officers will also be on hand to take part in the discussion.

An Ohio man who allegedly shot four people in two states remains hospitalized in Roanoke.

John Richard Mayhew's trouble with the law began in Ohio when police say he shot and killed his former wife and her fiance on Thursday, then took his daughter hostage.

Mayhew was traveling through West Virginia Saturday when he was pulled over by a sheriff's deputy for not having an inspection sticker.
State police say when the deputy approached the vehicle and started a conversation, Mayhew pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the chest.

It was then police discovered Mayhew had shot his daughter and shot himself.
The daughter is dead. Mayhew is at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Negotiators for Goodyear and the United Steelworkers are expected to return to the bargaining table today and focus on a union counterproposal submitted Saturday.
The union rejected Goodyear's latest offer last Wednesday.
The Steelworkers union represents Goodyear workers in Danville.
