Coming up on News 7--
The head of Virginia's Republican Party is calling it quits, after pleading guilty to his role in the G-O-P eavesdropping scandal.
And a pair of suicide bombings today in the Middle East leaves four people dead and nearly a dozen others injured.
[TAPE#= 03-24 1:23:46.]
The investigation into GOP eavesdropping claims another casualty.
Gary Thomson is stepping down as Chairman of the Republican Party of VA
Earlier today, Thomson pled guilty to a misdeamnor charge of aiding and abetting unauthorized publication of a wire communication.
He was sentenced to two years probation and a two thousand dollar fine.
In a statement, Thomson said the charge does not disqualify him from serving as GOP chairman but that he believes his resignation is in the best interest ofthe party.
Ed Matricardi, the former director of the state's Republican Party pleaded guilty to listening in on Democratic conference calls in March of 2002.
After a three day break, Verizon and its union are talking again.
Government mediators called for the hiatus after the company presented new proposals about job security.
The Communication Workers of America say that and benefits continue to be their main concerns.
Local President Guy Angell (Angel) says since negotiations resumed at ten this morning, there's been "some movement" but that the two sides are nowhere close to reaching an agreement.
Workers are prepared to walk off the job and strike at any moment.
Verizon says, in that case, management would pick up the slack.
After weeks of little violence in the Middle East, two suicide bombings today in Israel have killed at least four people, including the bombers.
As Teri Okita tells us, the renewed violence has created a major obstacle on the roadmap to peace.

Violence and hunger continue plaguing Liberia, a day after President Charles Taylor left the country.
Witnesses say a rebel faction is marching toward the
government-controlled airport in Monrovia, killing civilians along the way.
Meanwhile, Taylor has begun his exile in Nigeria.
He arrived there yesterday to a muted reception from officials and hostility from human rights activists.
Nigeria offered Taylor asylum to bring an end to 14 years of almost non- stop war in Liberia.
A convicted crack addict will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing the 89-year old night manager at Shenandoah Homes last year.
Danny Rae Taylor has said he didn't mean to kill the woman.
But the fact that he was IN the assisted living center when he shouldn't have been AND that he sexually assaulted Helen Cadd led to a plea agreement in the case.
Taylor pled guilty yesterday afternoon to "felony murder" to avoid a possible death sentence.

A virus- like computer infection spread rapidly overnight.
It's already impacting tens of thousands of home and business computers- causing them to re- start and launch an electronic attack against a Microsoft Web site.
Security experts say the infection, which exploits an unusually dangerous flaw in Windows software, isn't seriously disrupting Internet traffic, but it does pose that risk as it spreads.

Even at 96 years of age, Oliver Hill is still able to captivate a crowd with his experiences and views on civil rights.
Last night the Virginia civil rights lawyer brought his stories to Roanoke.
Hill was honored this evening by "The Committee for Community Preservation".
Hill helped dismantle legalized segregation in Virginia.
He and his legal team filed scores of lawsuits during the civil rights era.
One case was a precursor to the famous Brown versus Board of Education case in 1954.
In 1999, Hill was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
