A major power outage has struck New York City- and other cities int he U-S and Canada.

This is what's going on in New YOrk City- Thousands of people are streaming into the streets in 90 degree weather.
The blackout has affected elevators as well as the city's subways and both JFK and Laguardia airports.
Power is also reported out in areas north to Toronto, south to maryalnd and west to Cleveland, detroit and toledo.

It is affecting areas from New York City to Long Island and to the north. The buildings affected include the United Nations and New York Stock Exchange, along with Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.
A New York emergency management official says he has ``no idea how extensive it is.''

A special grand jury is investigating a member of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors for allegedly falsifying public comment forms submitted to the state highway department.

Supervisor Kirby Richardson represents the Moneta area- -which includes the White House Community. There's an awkward intersection there where route 608 runs into 626 on the way to Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Richardson voted to approve the million dollar improvement project. He's suspected of having a hand in filing out more than one of the 48 comment sheets submitted to V-DOT.

One man was killed in an accident in Bedford County around 5 o'clock this morning.

55 year old Harold David Jennings of Elliston was driving a delivery truck northbound on Route 122, when 72 year old Harry Leigh Peters pulled out from Route 24, striking Jennings' truck. Jennings was killed after his truck spun out of control and flipped over. He was NOT wearing a seat belt. Peters was not hurt. State Police say they will consult with the Commonwealth Attorney on whether to press charges. Meanwhile, residents around the intersection say they are tired of seeing accidents at the crossroads, and want VDOT to make improvements to the roads.

Police Officer Butch Lewis will return to Patrick Henry High School next week.

City officials have offered Lewis a temporary assignment at PH, while a new task force considers school safety and the appropriate role of school resource officers.
Today, attorney Gary Lumsden confirmed that Lewis will suspend his grievances and accept the city's offer. The papers were signed this afternoon.

A physician shortage is on the horizon --and Southwest Virginia will be one of the areas hardest hit.
That's according the dean of a new medical college in Blacksburg.

An Alabama judge says he won't remove a ten commandments monument from a state building even though a federal court says it must go.

(( In an effort to display what he believes is Gods law, an Alabama judge is disobeying a court law. Chief Justice Roy Moore I have no intention of removing the monument of the ten commandments and the moral foundation of our law.
Chief Justice Roy Moore is fighting a federal court ruling ordering him to remove the commandments from the rotunda of the Alabama Supreme court. An appellate court said if it allowed the display.. every government building could be adorned with a cross, menora or statue of Buddha depending on who was in charge.
Elizabeth Sanchez/reporting: Across the country Federal Courts have ruled on the separation of church and state and have not always agreed. Here in Texas the ten commandments are on display on the capitol grounds.

And in Phoenix, a ten commandment monument also sits on state property while in Philadelphia a similar plague remains in a courthouse. And there are law suits to get rid of them all.
Philip Jauregui, Moores attorney You have one first amendment in this nation yet it is being interpreted in different way from court to court to court.
Justice Moore is gonna continue to fight. He says its more than just about the ten commandments.
Justice Moore Alabama will never give up its right to acknowledge God, the acknowledgment is the basis of our justice system. A federal district judge has threatened to fine Alabama if its not removed by next week. Its a matter that will most likely end up in the hands of the U S Supreme court.
