Former Resource Officer Butch Lewis may be heading back to Patrick Henry High School.
City officials confirm they have offered Lewis a temporary assignment at his former workplace, while a new school safety task force considers the role of the resource officers.

((Butch Lewis huddled with his attorneys, but neither he nor lawyer Gary Lumsden would confirm the pending deal.
In a telephone conversation, City Manager Darlene Burcham said the offer has not been put in writing yet, and has not been signed... but she confirmed that if Lewis is willing to suspend his grievances, he can take a temporary assignment at Patrick Henry.
Lewis got into trouble after sharing concerns about school safety with a newspaper reporter. He's been fighting for his position at Patrick Henry since June when he was transferred to patrol duty.
Once the task force completes its work, and changes in the School Resource Officer Program are implemented, presumably by the first of next year, Lewis would have the opportunity to renew his grievances against the city, if he chooses. [STAND-UP CLOSE]
Burcham says she hopes to set aside the controversy involving Lewis, so the community has the best possible opportunity to address the larger issues surrounding school safety, and the resource officer program.
City and School officials will meet next week, in an effort to move that process forward.

To ease neighbors' concerns, the plan includes colored poles that blend into the scenery, limiting the use of the field to just the high school soccer team, and making sure the lights are off within a half hour after a game ends.
The school board also approved renovations to Bogle (Bow-gle) Field at Cave Spring Middle School.

With 25-thousand residents employed in racing-related fields, the Governor says Virginia can only benefit from a reputation as an "automotive state". Authorities do NOT suspect foul play in the deaths of a father and son in Franklin County, but autopsies are scheduled on both of them today.

The sheriff says it appears Mac Cundiff had been dead for about 10- days when he was discovered yesterday. Cundiff's adult son was also found dead in the family's mobile home in the Scruggs section of the county. Officials believe he passed away several days AFTER his father. The two lived alone and investigators say it appears both died of natural causes. Authorities suspect the elderly Cundiff died and that his son, who was mentally handicapped, was unable to care for himself. He either wasn't able to take his medication or went without food and water.

The sheriff says a business that the Cundiffs paid to monitor their well being notified the sheriff's office yesterday, asking deputies to check on the two because they had been unable to contact them.
