The sheriff says it appears Mac Cundiff had been dead for about 10- days when he was discovered yesterday.
Cundiff's adult son was also found dead in the family's mobile home in the Scruggs section of the county.
Officials believe he passed away several days AFTER his father.
The two lived alone and investigators say it appears both died of natural causes.
Authorities suspect the elderly Cundiff died and that his son, who was mentally handicapped, was unable to care for himself.
He either wasn't able to take his medication or went without food and water.

(hot Paris)
The song may talk of loving Paris in the sprintime, but this summer
you're better off somewhere else. Even the government is talking of a
veritible epidemic of death. It's been so hot here for so long the heat
related death toll is now being put at three-thousand.
It's mostly the elderly and the weak. Hospitals which this time of year
expect an average of about forty deaths a day, this year are hitting
one-hundred-and-eighty.
The city many consider to be the world's most beautiful is just not
built for extreme heat. Small apartments with little ventilation, no
air conditioning -- it takes its toll. Many elderly left on their own
as their families go off on vacation -- simply fade away... and
sometimes aren't discovered for days.
The normal summer temperature in Paris is around seventy-five degrees.
It's been sitting around ninety-eight for weeks.
What's it good for? -- the grapes. All that heat and light is supposed
to produce a glorious harvest. But this year it'll be a harvest of
sadness as well. MP CBS News London.

((Butch Lewis huddled with his attorneys, but neither he nor lawyer Gary Lumsden would confirm the pending deal.
In a telephone conversation, City Manager Darlene Burcham said the offer has not been put in writing yet, and has not been signed... but she confirmed that if Lewis is willing to suspend his grievances, he can take a temporary assignment at Patrick Henry.
Lewis got into trouble after sharing concerns about school safety with a newspaper reporter. He's been fighting for his position at Patrick Henry since June when he was transferred to patrol duty.
Once the task force completes its work, and changes in the School Resource Officer Program are implemented, presumably by the first of next year, Lewis would have the opportunity to renew his grievances against the city, if he chooses.
[STAND-UP CLOSE]
Burcham says she hopes to set aside the controversy involving Lewis, so the community has the best possible opportunity to address the larger issues surrounding school safety, and the resource officer program.
