Republican State Senate Candidate Brandon Bell found out that Colonial Downs wanted to locate in Vinton just a few days ago. Supporters say the facilities are essentially sports bars where patrons can wager on live horse races simulcast from all over the country. But Bell sees trouble.

Law enforcement is concentrating much of its effort in Cambell's Creek, a few miles outside of Charleston -- one person was killed at this gas station -- two others were killed nearby. A witness at one of the crime scenes reported seeing a dark colored truck similar to these. Detectives say the person may live in the area because an "out-of - towner" would not end up at gas stations so far off the main route. The killings started last week -- three victims -- all shot in the head or neck.

A happy start to the school year at Longwood University, where faculty and staff today dedicated the new Grainger (GRAIN-jer) Hall. It replaces the old building that burned in April of 2001.
Grainger is the first of four Longwood structures to be rebuilt. It houses classrooms and offices, all wired for high technology.
Construction on the Ruffner Halls and the Rotunda should be finished in 2005.

The rare crustacean was found off of New Hampshire.

First fullback Charles Stackhouse in the blue and linebacker Dhani Jones got into a wrestling match in the red zone. After the rolling around ended Stackhouse threw a wild punch that the coach wasn't too wild about. He went then over got in Stackhouse's face and ordered him to sit out. When Stackhouse turned away Fassel picked up the player's helmet and threw it at the back of his legs and told his to run two laps. Later Darnell Dinkins and Wayne Lucier got into it. There was another scuffle and then a midfield meeting in which Fassel warned the team that the next player to fight was being sent home.
