Durham is the only one of the five people indicted last year to enter a guilty plea.
The prosecutor read a summary of the facts in her case that outlined some of the charges against Dr. Knox.
Pat Hogeboom said Durham and Knox often got calls from law enforcement officers saying certain patients were abusing or selling narcotics Knox prescribed. Nonetheless, the prosecutor said Knox continued to prescribe narcotics to those patients.
He said one patient died of an overdose of medication prescribed by Knox.
Knox allegedly prescribed "high doses of narcotics" to one woman, even after Durham pointed out the patient was pregnant.
The government says Knox pre-signed prescriptions that Durham and the office nurse filled out for patients when the doctor was on vacation.
Knox was so close to his patients, he let some of them live in the basement and allowed others to use the side door to avoid dealing with the office staff, enabling them to get prescriptions directly from the Doctor.
[SUPER=04-February, 2002]
Knox and the others get to tell their version to a federal jury, beginning two weeks from Monday.
