The Botetourt County Sheriff's Department says Milen Rube Goins was arrested in Stokes County, North Carolina this morning. The 47-year old man was apparently visiting his sister.
[SUPER=03-Botetourt Co./Wednesday;]

Goins is charged with murder in the shooting death of his cousin, 46-year old David Bowman, at the Willowbrook Trailer Park Tuesday night. When confronted by a North Carolina detective, Goins surrendered without resistance.
[SUPER=03-Roanoke/This Afternoon;]

But while being transported back to Botetourt County this afternoon, Goins apparently became "disorderly." Sheriff's deputies called for backup after experiencing "some kind of difficulty" with the suspect on Interstate 581 near the Orange Avenue interchange. Goins and an officer appeared scratched and bloody. With help from Roanoke City Police, a shackled Goins was transferred from a cruiser into a transport van to continue the trip.

Add Virginia to the list of states that have seen a sharp rise in the number of viral meningitis cases in the month of August.
The Central Virginia Health District says it's had more than forty reports of the disease over the last month.
The illness affects the central nervous system and is characterized by headache, fever, stiff neck, sensitivity to light and nausea or vomiting.
Health officials say patients who have had viral meningitis do not pose a risk to anyone else once they've recovered.
They urge everyone to practice good hygiene to avoid spreading or contracting the disease.
