It's been more than a month since Tony Leyva skipped parole. Tonight, US Marshals told reporters Leyva has been captured in Haiti.

If that happens Leyva will return to prison for nine years. Haitian officials have charged Leyva with false identity, but it's not clear if he committed any additional crimes while in the country.

Gerl Dillon is currently being treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is listed in fair condition. Her daughter, Teresa, returned home after hearing her parent's house had caught fire. She says the family was having some problems with an electrical outlet, but firefighters have NOT said if the fire was electrical in nature.

It was also a busy day for fire crews in Roanoke County after a garage caught fire.

It happened on Greenway drive around 11:30. Hollins and Read Mountain fire departments responded and had the blaze under control within 20 minutes. Investigators say a man was working on his motorcycle -- he had taken the gas tank off, and a spark from the battery ignited the fuel. Two sports cars and a B-M-W were damaged and the garage was a total loss. The damage is estimated at 78- thousand dollars.

A Roanoke City police officer was treated for minor injuries suffered in an accident following a chase last night.

Police say the male officer was pursuing a suspect and hit another citizen's car. The passengers of that car were not injured.
But the officer suffered a minor gash to the head.

Nearly 35 officers manned the checkpoint for about 4 and a half hours last night at the Bennington Street Bridge in Southeast. Two people were charged with driving under the influence. Among the surprising casualties was Shayne Graham. The former Hokie kicker and Pulaski County Cougar was released by the Panthers. Graham, who was picked up last season by the club had battled veteran John Kasay throughout training camp.

The Salem Avalanche knocked off the Lynchburg Hillcats tonight by a score of 7 to 6. The Avs win coupled with Kinston's 4-1 loss to Myrtle Beach means that the Carolina League's Southern Division pennant chase will come down to the final day of the regular season. Salem and Kinston are dead even entering tomorrow's play. The Avalanche hosts Lynchburg at 7-05.

Forty-Seven year old Terry Labonte scored one for Nascar's veterans this afternoon in Darlington, picking up his first victory since 1999 in the 54th Southern 500. Ironically, Labonte's first career start and his first career win came at the expense of the Lady in Black.

It's also the track too tough to tame and just 5 laps in it beared its teeth. There was big trouble in the form of this five car mess. Among those involved were Rusty Wallace, Michael Waltrip and Dale Jarrett.
Then at lap 167 Casey Mears turns Jeff Gordon around and Gordon sets off another demolition derby. Johnny Benson and Ken Schrader were also taken out.
Ryan Newman had one of the fastest cars today, but Newman inadvertently hit the car's kill switch ending his hopes of winning.
Labonte beat everyone off of pit road with just 30 laps to go and held off Kevin Harvick for his first trip to victory lane in 156 races.
