An accident in Salem involving a car and a tractor trailer could affect your morning commute. Authorities say the southbound lane at the intersection of Electric Road and Roanoke Boulevard is closed. Crews are trying cleanup a chemical spill at the scene. Officials are not sure how many gallons spilled or if anyone was injured. We'll keep you updated on this situation throughout the morning.

A Haitian man will be one thousand dollars richer.
The U-S Marshals Service will reportedly pay the man for helping with the capture of convicted child molester Tony Leyva.

U-S Embassy officials now say that the man single handedly tackled and tied up Leyva after recognizing the self-ordained evangelist minister from posters the embassy had plastered around the country. He was deported earlier this week, and was in the custody of U-S Marshals in Florida. They say he will likely be returned to the federal prison system after a court hearing. Leyva was convicted of conspiring to molest dozens of young boys back in 1988. He who jumped parole from in July and fled to Haiti. Authorities still don't know how he got into the country.

A grand jury may charge a man accused of shooting his former landlord with first degree murder.

Yesterday, Muhammed Majeed appeared in Roanoke County General District Court for a preliminary hearing .

He is accused in the July shooting of businessman Chris Hanes in the 42-year old's southwest county home. Police say the confrontation concerned a 575-dollar rental deposit Majeed felt he was owed. Although the 23-year old says he doesn't remember firing his gun investigators say he immediately took responsibility for the shooting.

An accident in Salem is affecting traffic this morning, as crews clean up a fuel spill.

Authorities say Route 419 Southbound is closed between Apperson Drive and Roanoke Boulevard.
They say a tractor trailer struck an Oldsmobile while pulling out of a nearby gas station.
When it collided, authorities say the car ruptured the truck's fuel tank, spilling between 30 and 40 gallons of fuel onto the road.
No one was injured.
Officials estimate it'll take more than an hour to clean up the spill.

A water improvement project could mean more revenue heading to Giles County.

Yesterday, officials broke ground for a new water system that will serve the towns of Pearisburg and Pembroke. The system will be built along Route 460, and will include a new water pump station and two storage tanks. Officials say the new system will provide residents and businesses with better fire protection, which they hope will in turn attract new employers to the area. The one-point-two million dollar project should be completed by the end of January.
