Jurors in the oxycontin trial of Cecil Knox were confronted this morning with the faces of seven dead people.

It was part of the prosecutor's Powerpoint presentation in an openings statement to the jury.

The most serious of the 83 counts against Dr. Knox involve death or serious injury of some of his patients.
During the timeframe covered by the indictment, Knox was seeing more than 2-thousand patients.
His attorney points out that of all those people the government questioned were involved in just 31 cases.
Attorney Tony Anderson portrayed Dr. Knox as a "caring, loving, compastionate physician who was an advocate for his patients in pain."
The trial is expected to continue through at least mid-October.

A man was shot and wounded in Carroll County early today.
The sheriff's office says 21-year-old Glen McMillian of Cana went to a neighbor's house after he was shot in the face.
He's in stable condition at a North Carolina hospital.
Deputies arrested a suspect a few hours later.
19-year-old Kyle Travis Snow, also of Cana, is charged with malicious wounding and illegal use of a firearm.
Officials did not say what led to the shooting.

It took about forty firefighters from around central Virginia to extinguished a fire in Campbell County last night.

The first crews to arrive at Trans World Connections off Timberlake Drive found smoke and flames coming from the roof of the two-story building.
The blaze broke out in a group of offices there around 6:30 yesterday evening.
Firefighters were able to enter the building and get the blaze under control in about a half hour.
The company makes cable harnesses and was in the process of downsizing and moving to another building across the street.
The structure that caught fire had actually been sold last week.. the owner of the business says he's not sure how the fire will affect that transaction.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Some Montana residents got to see a bear in the air yesterday.

It happened after a black bear wandered into a Missoula neighborhood and climbed up a tree.
Wildlife officials shot it with a tranquilizer gun and, minutes later, the bear came down.
It wasn't a soft landing, but officials say the bear was in a deep sleep and didn't feel a thing.
He'll be released back into the wild after he wakes up.
