The Appomattox man who's the center of a legal battle over life-support was removed from a ventilator today.
Jason Childress was injured in a July car crash.
Today, the University of Virginia Medical Center removed his ventilator after his court-appointed guardian determined he would not want to continue living on life support.
Childress' mother, sister and fiancee supported removing the ventilator. His father and stepmother did NOT.
Since Childress had no spouse or adult children, left no written instructions and his parents could not agree, a judge appointed a guardian to make the decision.

An oil rig collapses tonight in the Gulf of Mexico-

A Coast Guard spokesman says the rig collapsed near the Louisiana and Mississippi coast- dumping dozens of workers into the water.
Coast guard helicopters and other vessels have picked up as many as 41 workers.
At this hour, no details on the number or extent of injuries, although we know at least two people were taken to the hospital.
No word yet on what caused the rig to collapse.

A jury found Dexter Lamont Dixon of South Boston guilty today.
He'll spend 73 years in prison for first-degree murder and other convictions.

In December of 1993, two men were shot to death inside their car at the Riverdale Amoco in Halifax County.
Two other Halifax County men pleaded guilty to roles in the murders.
