The 60- foot flag pole at the Old Virginia Brick Company is made of two girders from the twin towers. At Hotel Roanoke, employees spent the morning displaying American flags. 2, 998 of them - one for each person killed during the attacks. Roanoke College students also displayed flags, bringing the number killed to life.

In other news tonight, some scary moments for about ten bus passengers today after their Greyhound bus caught fire on Route 29 north of Lynchburg.

Around 2:15, the driver of the Greyhound bus noticed it was making strange noises, and so he pulled over in the southbound lanes.
After everyone was safely off the bus, the back end of it caught fire.
It took firefighters about fifteen minutes to bring the fire under control.
Riders say they could tell something was wrong.

The drug treatment center planning a new methadone clinic says the program will serve a critical need in the Roanoke Valley.
But the plans are also raising concerns among the center's prospective neighbors.

Officials from the New Vista Montessori School say they're concerned that such a treatment facility would be located across the street from the school and near a residential neighborhood.

A pain specialist from North Carolina testified for the government today in the criminal case against Doctor Cecil Knox.
Doctor Richard Lee Rauck took issue with the complex combination and high dosage of narcotics Dr. Knox prescribed for some of his patients.
According to the patients' medical charts, in some cases the patient was on morphine, methadone and OxyContin- - all long-lasting opiates- -all at the same time.
The chart indicates Knox prescribed a total of eight drugs for the patient including Valium.

A third man has been convicted in a decade-old double murder in Halifax County.

A jury found Dexter Lamont Dixon of South Boston guilty today.
He'll spend 73 years in prison for first-degree murder and other convictions.

In December of 1993, two men were shot to death inside their car at the Riverdale Amoco in Halifax County.
Two other Halifax County men pleaded guilty to roles in the murders.
Verlie Marion Word received two life sentences plus ten years.
