A teenage girl lost her life this morning when the car she was driving struck a tree in Rockbridge County. State police say it appears 16 year old Heather Nicole Edgarton of Lexington was driving too quickly for the wet road conditions.

Investigators say Edgarton was driving on state route 646 near Collierstown, when the car went off the roadway, then crossed back and struck a tree near the driver's side door. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Roanoke County man is charged with pointing a rifle at some young soccer players, their parents, and coaches earlier this week. Salem Police say 36 year old Charles David Akers was apparently upset one of his children didn't make the team. The alleged incident occured at a field behind the G-E plant in Salem.

The Cave Spring Knights hosted Robert E. Lee from Staunton, but the match had to take a back seat to a pre-game ceremony that honored the most successful team in the history of Cave Spring high school sports. Last year's volleyball team not only won the Group Two A state title, but finished unbeaten at 29-and-0.
