There are no orders for evacuation yet.
Forecasters do not expect Isabel to make landfall until Thursday so for now Virginia Beach officials are watching and waiting.

Because of the potential for coastal and inland flooding, damaging winds and possible tornadoes throughout the Commonwealth, Governor Warner declared a state of emergency.
Hotels along the oceanfront are reporting that guests are checking out early or calling ahead to cancel their reservations.
Homeowners along the water at Sandbridge are staying put for now.
This long-time resident says his house has survived weaker storms in the past, but Isabel has him worried.

Bedford County supervisor Kirby Richardson is free on a 10- thousand dollar secured bond. He was released from jail today after spending the weekend behind bars following his indictment on 82 felonies.

Teresa Hamilton discovered this was not Richardson's first brush with the law.

Shannon, one of felony charges against Richardson is obstruction of justice for allegedly making a threat against a witness. Today-- he was ordered not to have contact with his former secretary who has provided information for police.

The case against Richardson involves his alleged role in winning approval for a road project near Smith Mountain Lake.
In court today-- Richardson was also asked about any previous criminal convictions. Richardson admitted to a Class I misdemeanor conviction but the judge did not require Richardson or his attorney to elaborate after establishing that the charge did not involve violence or failure to appear in court.

A check of court documents shows Richardson was found guilty on a charge of prostitution in Roanoke in 1993.

It appears an electrical problem caused a fire that killed a woman at a Henry County retirement home.

The fire broke out just before 11 o'clock last night at the Caregivers Assisted Living Facility on Greensboro Road near the Martinsville Speedway.
Employees say the fire started in the laundry room behind a dryer.
The fire marshal confirmed that late this afternooon after a day long investigation.

The city of Roanoke is taking aim at the growing population of deer within its borders.

Today, council approved a change in the city code that will allow the use of firearms within city limits to thin the deer herd.

As Joe Dashiell reports, retired police officers could begin using a special sound-suppressed rifle to cull the deer population as soon as next month.

Heidi Baird questioned whether the deer problem demands a controlled hunt, and she asked council to table the proposal... Council member Bill Bestpitch said he needed more specifics.
But with complaints from property owners, and traffic accidents involving deer on the rise... city officials say it's time to take action... and allow teams of retired officers to shoot antlerless deer with a special sound-suppressed rifle.

The city is still working out the details of the deer management program, and the police department still needs approval from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for the special Remington rifle with sound suppression.

But Keith and Shannon, if all goes according to plan, two man teams could begin their work by the middle of next month... and officials predict they will take between 75 and 200 deer during the first year.

A former patient of Doctor Cecil Knox testified today that Knox kept her on heavy doses of various narcotics. Amy Leonard went into withdrawal when federal agents raided the doctor's office last year. She turned to street drugs, like crack cocaine, to feed her addiction. On one occasion- -while she was still seeing Dr. Knox- -she was so heavily sedated she was taken to her car in a wheel chair. Leonard's son said she could barely walk, but he told the court today that office personnel put Leonard in the driver's seat of her car and let her drive home.

The Giles County minister accused of molesting young children was also a substitute teacher.

Roger Holcomb of the Pembroke Church of God is in jail on 13-child molestation charges.

Authorities say Holcomb abused five children who attended his church, and in some cases, the children also attended the school where he was a substitute teacher. Holcomb filled-in teaching at Narrows High School and Eastern Elementary for 16-days over the past school year. School superintendent Bob McCracken says he was shocked when he heard about the accusations. He says not only did Holcomb pass a criminal record check, but he had an impressive resume, including a four-year degree in Divinity from Duke University.

The second man charged with a double murder in Lynchburg last year is now standing trial for the crime.

23-year-old Kevin Eugene Brown is accused of helping to gun down Anthony and Ronda Robinson in their Sussex Street home in April of 2002.
Brown's attorneys have argued their client fired just one shot that hit Anthony Robinson and that the wound was not fatal.
Brown's co-defendant Leon Jermain Winston has already been convicted and sentenced to death.
Jury selection for Brown's case got underway this morning.. the trial is expected to last all week.

(( The B2 Stealth is still scheduled to fly over the stadium in the pregame ceremonies, but that won't be the only big doings at Lane Stadium Between the first and second quarters you'll want to keep your seat as the Hokies honor former great George Preas. The Roanoke native, who later went on to star for the Baltimore Colts is the first former Hokie to be honored as part of the school's new NFL Flashback. Preas still lives in Roanoke, but has been battling Parkinson's disease in recent years. His family will be on hand for the ceremony. As for the game - Tech is a huge 15 point favorite to beat the 20th ranked Aggies in what is the first true test of the season. ((BITES:)) The Tech fans will also need to step up their game on Thursday night. Last year the Hokies got a win at Kyle Field, but also an education in big time college football fan behavior. The 80 thousand plus facility is known as the best football experience in college athletics. ((BITES:)) The Aggies are in their first season under new head coach Dennis Franchione, but at least one member of his staff knows plenty about the Hokies. Defensive coordinator Carl Torbush - was the head coach at North Carolina when the Heels crushed Tech 42-to-3 in the 1998 Gator Bowl.))

We begin tonight with the passing of a legendary football coach. Former Lexington boss Pete Brewbaker died this past weekend at the age of 90. Coach Brewbaker was through coaching by the time Friday Football Extra came along, but he's was a friend of the show since its inception.

He was the coach for 39 years at old Lexington high school where he won 219 games during his days in charge of the Scarlet Hurricane. The field at the old high school was named in his honor - Brewbaker Field. He also won two state titles as a golf coach at Lexington and he served in the Navy along side Paul Bear Bryant. Sam Snead was a rival and contemporary of his. Pete's team once beat Sam's 50-to-4 in basketball. Pete Brewbaker was 90.
