Officials say the ships can maneuver around the hurricane once they're in open water.

As Isabel approaches, Amtrak has already cancelled some trains scheduled to go through Eastern Virginia.
The two trains which go through cities in this region- the Crescent and Carninal- are still both scheduled- though that could change.
Airlines have not cancelled flights yet- but they say they will relax their reservation policies depending on Isabel.

A report from the state fire marshal's office shows overcrowded classrooms at Virginia Tech are a safety violation.

State fire officials visited Tech LAST Wednesday, about a week after a photo in the Roanoke Times showed students sitting in the aisles of a lecture hall.
Inspectors found one violation--a cart that was blocking an aisle--which was corrected on-site.
But, officials later discovered that the 329 students enrolled in the class actually exceeded the room's posted occupancy of 300.

It began a few months ago with summer school.

Falcons coach Dan Reeves said this week that the target date for Vick's return to playing is most likely October 19th against the Saints, and possibly October 13th against the Rams. Vick is still on crutches and cannot put his show on the foot of his fractured right leg.

The ECHL governors meetings wrapped up last week in Las Vegas but there is still a strike. The Owners have put a new collective bargaining agreement offer on the table and the players are reviewing it. The Express regular season opener is a month away as of tomorrow.

The Express will not have left winger Jason Jaffray on opening night. Jaffray has signed a one way contract with the AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins in Wilkesbar, Pennsylvania. Now Wheeling is the ECHL affiliate and there is a slight chance Jaffray could play for the Nailors this season. Jaffray had 85 points this past season for the Express. 34 goals and 51 assists.
