A shelter may be the best place for many Virginians tonight- it is not safe outside in much of the state tonight.
Hurricane Isabel is now a Tropical Storm but the damage is most likely not over yet.

Four people are dead now from this storm- a worker trying to restore power was electrocuted in North Carolina and three motorists were killed - two in Virginia and one in Maryland.

In the Eastern Part of Virginia, state police are asking people to stay off the interstates saying it is not safe to go out.
And in Richmond a mandatory curfew is in effect all night long.
President Bush has declared a major disaster in North Carolina and Virginia. That oens the door for federal help.

Winds reached speeds of 35 to 45 miles per hour, but emergency personnel were ready to battle the storm.

Downed trees brought down power lines and caused delays for motorists.
About 4000 Southside Homes and businesses greeted nightfall by candlelight and power to sporadic traffic lights was knocked out, but no major accidents or injuries were reported.
Police encouraged residents to stay at home, but employees at Mr. Renovation battled winds to load their disaster aid vehicles.

In the Lynchburg area, the worst appears to be over as far as the winds tonight.. but authorities are keeping a close eye on small streams and rivers which are quickly rising from the heavy rain.

As the wind and rain increased, so did the number of power outages in the area.. it was a preview of what was yet to come.

((As far as the Lynchburg area goes, this is about as bad as it got all night with the winds really starting to pick up around 7:30 or 8 o'clock and gusting for a good couple of hours. Not only was heavy rain coming down but trees and power lines were falling as well.))

In Boonsboro, this house suffered damage when a tree fell on it around 7:30 during a period of high winds.
Lynchburg fire crews were kept busy most of the night responding to calls of power lines sparking and popping in the street.
But overall, Isabel packed less of a punch then most people had expected.

Police in Roanoke say Hurricane Isabel knocked down trees and power lines, forcing some roads to close.

One lane of Orange Avenue was closed, and crews were out cleaning up debris and fallen trees across the city.
Several trees were knocked down at the Roanoke Regional Airport and on Airport Road.
All flights into and out of the airport were canceled and many of tomorrow's flights are canceled or delayed.
Police say all roads have been reopened.
AEP says at 37-hundred Roanoke area customers are without power.

Bryant's security detail aparently received a letter from Graber stating that he could solve Bryant's problems.
A meeting was arranged with undercover agents where Graber allegedly said he would stop Bryant's accuser from testifying for 3 million dollars.
