Rockbridge County rescue teams are searching for five people missing in South River this morning.

Officials there say several families were trapped in their homes when they did not leave during mandatory evacuations last night, while others tried to drive across flooded roadways and were swept away.
Eleven people were rescued overnight, some of whom are being taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The Salem SWIFT Water Rescue team and the Westvaco rescue team are assisting with the search.

Hurricane Isabel has many southside residents waking up to downed trees and power lines.

Winds reached speeds of 35 to 45 miles per hour. Emergency personnel were ready to respond, but couldn't prevent 4000 homes and businesses from losing power. As of last night, flooding along the Dan River was not a problem, but officials say that could change.

Although trees blocked many roads and some traffic lights lost power, no major accidents or injuries were reported. An emergency shelter has been set up at Westwood Middle School for anyone displaced by Isabel.

A car accident in Henry County leaves two people dead.

[Take Henry Fatal Map FS] In happened on Route 58 in front of the Horsepature rescue squad. State police say the minivan pulled out from a stop sign into the path of a tractor trailer. The driver of the van, Keenan David Spencer of Martinsville and his passenger Eric Lamont Trent of Ridgeway were both killed. There's no word on the condition of the tractor trailer driver.

Someone in the Lynchburg is now a millionaire. The Kroger store on Boonesboro Road sold a Lotto South ticket last night that matched all six winning numbers.
So far, the winner has not come forward, but whoever holds that ticket is 18-million dollars richer.

Nearly two-dozen Radford police officers are suing the department. They are alleging they have not been properly paid for working overtime.

Police in Roanoke say Hurricane Isabel knocked down trees and power lines, forcing some roads to close.

One lane of Orange Avenue was closed, and crews were out cleaning up debris and fallen trees across the city. Several trees were knocked down at the Roanoke Regional Airport and on Airport Road. Police say all roads have been reopened. AEP says at 37-hundred Roanoke area customers are without power.
