A young Bedford man could spend up to 16 years in jail for a night of drinking that turned deadly.

20-year old Michael Channing Coffey pled guilty yesterday to maiming, driving under the influence, and involuntary manslaughter.
Although he doesn't remember the accident, Coffey admits he was drunk and speeding when his Chevy Blazer ran off Route 122 in Moneta last September.
24 year old James Edward Sines (Signs) the Third died at the scene.
Jason Overstreet survived but is now paralyzed.

A Roanoke woman says she let missing teenager Jenni Northrup stay with her without realizing the police and the girl's parents were looking for her.

As if to make up for letting the teen go, Beth Holbert teamed up with Jenni's mother yesterday afternoon, canvassing the neighbor for the missing 16-year old. Holbert says some friends brought the girl to her home several days ago and asked if the girl could stay with her. Holbert agreed to put her up.

A new company to Virginia will become the first to locate in the Vinton Business Center. Officials will make the announcement yesterday.
They're not revealing the name of the company, but we're told the facility will employ about 200 people.

940 jobs in Virginia and Maryland will be lost when First Virginia Bank and B-B-and T merge this month.
A B-B-and-T spokeswoman says the company is giving employees 60 days notice and providing outplacement help and severance.
The merger became official in July but bank branches in overlapping territory won't be merged until October 14th.

It was much the same scene yesterday, except that these were tears of joy, as members of the 2nd Battalion, 116th Infantry returned home.
Hundreds of people turned out as the soldiers marched into the Armory parking lot to the sound of cheers and a local high school band.
After a few brief speeches, the soldiers were released to their families.. and the tearful reunions began.

According to Roanoke County officals, plans for a methadone clinic are NOT in compliance with the county zoning ordinance.
A zoning administrator made that determination yesterday, as the board of supervisors prepared for a possible lawsuit.

The methadone clinic is planned for a former medical office located at the corner of Colonial Avenue and Ogden road.
Zoning administrator David Holladay says the planned use is sufficiently different to require an amendment to the zoning ordinance.

Six people were taken to nearby hospitals after they fell from a window during a private concert at the Solar Haus. 19-year-old Daniel Martin, a Virginia Tech sophomore and business major, died of his injuries. Another student, 21-year-old Jason Michael Kontkanen, remains in critical condition. Although the town is still investigating, officials say the property does NOT have any previous zoning or building violations.
