Health officials say Virginia may have its first West Nile death of the year.
A spokesman for the Central Shenandoah Health District says that a 79-year-old Augusta County resident who died this week almost certainly was a victim of the mosquito-borne illness.
Final confirmation will come after test results return from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, but he says he's 99 percent sure it was West Nile.
The victim, who was NOT identified, was ill for about a week.
The state has had ten suspected human cases of the disease this year.
