Six year old Candice Parker is safe and sound this evening after allegedly being abducted by her stepmother yesterday morning. Police say the Amber Alert helped put law enforcement and the public on the same page.

Police say they're still sorting through the details surrounding Candice's alleged abduction. A man named "Gordy" last name unknown, is believed to have been with Barbara when she picked up Candice. They're not sure how or if he played a role in the ordeal, but police have labeled him a person of interest.

Hurricane Isabel could have an impact on road projects around the state-- now and down the road.

Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation say some construction projects may be delayed as they focus on repairing roads damaged by the storm. Hurricane- related repairs and cleanup are expected to cost V-DOT 100- million dollars. That's 26- million dollars more than V-DOT budged for weather- related emergencies for the entire year. Department officials say they will seek federal assistance, but that can take years.

More than a dozen couples took a "walk to remember" in Salem today.

The walk is dedicated to the more than 800- thousand babies who die each year because of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and stillbirth death. The eighth annual event serves as a chance for bereaved parents and health care professionals to heal and remember. After the walk through Longwood Park, those who took part released balloons and shared refreshments. President Reagan declared October national pregnancy loss awareness month in 1989.

Speedway officials offered free tickets to the former textile workers to try to take their minds off the area's economic woes. They say response was overwhelming. Hundreds stood in line for tickets to today's Taco Bell 300 and the Subway 500 October 19th. Speedway owner Clay Campbell says the laid- off workers have always supported racing in Martinsville.

At lap 69, Michael Waltrip got out of the groove and spun into the wall to bring out the caution. Kenseth tried to avoid the 15 car and lost control himself. The championship leader crashed into the inside retaining wall and spent about 40 laps in the garage, before recording a 36th place finish.
Elliott Sadler, who flipped end over end last week at Talladega, blew a tire midway through today's race resulting in this fiery incident.
Kurt Busch found out about the hot stuff, blowing an engine and watching his car become engulfed with flames. Busch escaped unharmed.
Bill Elliott led 115 laps today, but Newman got the lead on a restart at lap 241 and held on to take the checkers.
