A federal judge in Deleware said the sale of Pillowtex's brands, plants and equipment to G-G-S-T can proceed.
GGST has said that it plans to sell Pillowtex's assets rather than operate them.

Vinton and Roanoke County officials acknowledge that development will bring change to the McDonald Farm property.
But officials say the Vinton Business Park, will still be developed in a way to minimize the impact on blue ridge parkway viewsheds, and nearby homeowners.

Members of the planning commission also took up another issue that's been in the news. They voted to require a special use permit when medical offices are proposed in certain districts.

Investigators in the Short family murders say they exhumed Jennifer Short's remains and reburied them more than a week ago.
They say they needed to conduct further forensic analysis on the remain -- but won't say why.
They got a court order to dig them up September 30th.
Investigators took Jennifer's remains to the crime lab in Roanoke and returned them to the family's burial plot the following day.
Short family relatives gave their consent to have them exhumed.
Investigators say it was a necessary step in their ongoing investigation, but wouldn't elaborate.

Blacksburg town council will get another crack at a controversial sewer system.
Tonight the planning commission voted to revise the town's comprehensive plan to include a centralized sewer system.

A federal appeals court in Denver clears the way today for the Federal Trade Commission to operate the list- that's pending a court decision over whether the registry violates the free speech rights of telemarketing companies.

A Martsinville man faces new charges for the same crime.

19 year old Billy Ray Manns was charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Lisa Nicole Thomas in September of 2000.
His first trial ended in a hung jury.
Another jury found Manns NOT GUILTY at the retrial in April.
Now seven months later, a grand jury has indicted Manns with conspiracy to commit murder which could result in a prison term of five to twenty years.
Investigators obtained new information in July when Manns was arrested for breaking and entering in a separate incident in Henry County.

Salem won the championship and Jefferson Forest finished second, as both of those schools advance to state play. William Byrd missed making it by one stroke. Salem freshman Aaron Eckstein won the individual title with a five under round of 65. Blacksburg's Kory Bell finished second with a two over 72. Byrd's Josh Hale was third.

The playing field is getting tougher for women at Virginia Military Institute ... and that's a good thing.

After three years as a club team, the women's soccer team went to varsity status this year.
The women will begin Big South competition in 2004.
With 12 of the 16 players new to the school, they have their work cut out for them.
So far this season, they've won three of eight games.

With a record 46 female rats in this year's freshman class, the demand for women's competitive sports at VMI is growing.
The school already has a women's track and cross country team and is considering adding womens' swimming.
