Officials say they're not sure exactly why the "Glass Air" plane crashed, but say the pilot told them the plane was having mechanical and electrical problems as it was approaching the runway.

Officials have not released the name of the pilot but say he purchased the plane two months ago and that it is self maintained.
The pilot told investigators he'd been in Roanoke for a few days working on his plane and was headed to New London, Connecticut.
There were no passengers.
At least four flights both in and out of the airport were delayed because of the accident.
One flight was diverted to Washington D-C, and another was diverted to West Virginia.

Police say a motorist struck this pole in the 35-hundred block of Williamson Road just before 9 o'clock.
Witnesses say the man appeared to lose control of his SUV before hitting the pole.
Police believe he may have had a seizure.
He's been charged with driving without a license and reckless driving.
Power to TWO homes was turned off while Verizon employees repaired the pole.
Traffic in both directions was blocked while loose lines were removed.

Authorities spent the night with K-9 units, and searched a nearby river with hover crafts.
Police say Hugo Selenski and Scott Bolton broke out of their jail cell by tying bed sheets together and climbing down seven stories.
Bolton fell during the escape and was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries -- Selenski got away.
Selinski is accused of killing two drug dealers, burning their bodies, and burying them in his yard.

Dallas hospital reports that surgery to separate joined twins is continuing, and their condition is stable.
A team of 18 doctors is performing the complicated separation surgery in an attempt to give the two-year-old twins from Egypt a chance at independent lives.
