In all, there were eight accidents that tied up traffic well into the night.
Things got so bad there were several incidents of road rage including one where a motorist pulled a gun.

But that will soon change.
V-Dot recently installed these permanent message boards on roadways leading to the interstate.
They'll be used to warn motorists of problems ahead and possibly how long the delay will be as well advise motorists on alternate routes.
Eventually, V-Dot will go a step further and provide real time traffic information over the radio.
[SOT 2:42]
[IN Q=It will give people some options]

The radio component could be up and running by spring and would be similar to the one used by motorists for Virginia Tech games.
As for those permanent message boards which you have probably seen popping up, they should be operational by the first of the year.
