When you think of Patrick County and racing, you often think of the Wood Brothers.
But that identity may soon be gone.
News 7 has learned the team is considering a move to North Carolina.

The Wood Brothers have been headquartered in Stuart for more than five decades, but they're thinking about moving some of its operations to Charlotte, North Carolina.
State and local leaders however hope to stop that plan dead in its tracks.

The Wood Brothers have told officials in Patrick County that it may move its race shop to Charlotte, possibly by the 2004 season.
The move would reportedly help the team remain competitive.
The plan is far from definite but it was enough for Governor Warner to request a meeting with the Wood Brothers last Sunday at the Martinsville race.
The governor declined to provide details about that meeting but says he hopes the team remains here in Virginia.

This fire though was not caused by accident- Authorities say someone set the fire in a garbage dump near the Giles County border.
35 to 40 acres are now burning on the north side of Cloyd's Mountain.
Despite rugged terrain, crews are trying to cut a line to contain the fire.
About two dozen firefighters battled the blaze today but only about four will keep an eye on it overnight.
No homes are in danger.

23 convicts, including those found guilty of murder, robbery and drug possession are all in tune with a song contest sponsored by the Russian goverment in which the top prize is release from prison.
The finalists were selected by music producers and prison officials from among hundreds of hopefuls.
The winner will also receive a trophy and cash and be announced from the stage of their gala-concert on Friday.
