Beamer says he didn't mean to do it and says he apologized to Wilford.
Wilford -- a senior from Richmond -- says the incident happened in the heat of the moment and that he loves his coach.
Virginia Tech is mum on the slap -- and an NCAA spokesperson told News-7 she had no comment.

Some overzealous West Virginia fans celebrated the win by setting dozens of fires in Morgantown.

The fans stormed the field and paralyzed traffic following the upset win over the Hokies.
They ignored pre-game pleas from fire officials and Coach Rich Rodriquez.
Emergency officials say at least a dozen of approximately 57 fires were fairly large.
County officials activated an emergency operations center for about 2-1/2 hours.
For a time, they considered cutting off power to Morgantown's Sunnyside neighborhood, where many W-V-U students live and where most of the fires were set.
An emergency officials says an unknown number of police and fire officers were struck with rocks and bottles.
All were treated and released from area hospitals.
More than 20 people were arrested.

35 acres of forest land are burning in a brush fire that may have been intentionally set in Pulaski County.

Authorities say someone set a fire in a garbage dump near the Giles County border. Flames quickly spread on the north side of Cloyd's Mountain. Despite rugged terrain, crews are trying to cut a line to contain the fire, and should be working throughout the night. About two dozen forestry firefighters are battling the blaze. No homes are currently being threatened.

The company announced yesterday that fifty to one-hundred workers at the Fairlawn plant are expected to lose their jobs. Representative Rick Boucher is asking the federal government to provide those employees with workers' assistance. Amongh other services the funds would provide career counseling, job search assistance, and meal and transportation allowances. Boucher's also requested a health coverage tax credit. New River Industries weaves fabrics for apparels and outdoor furniture and has been operating out of its Fairlawn plant since 1992.

A Carroll County man is charged with attempted murder after an early morning shooting. Police responded to 90 Pheasant Ridge Road in the Cana (KAYN-uh) section of the county shortly after 1:30. There they found Stephaine Eller with a gunshot wound to the head. There is no word on her condition. Witnesses described the shooter as 28- year- old Steven Edmond Hawks who was arrested in Lamsburg. Hawks is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

A power outage is throwing a kink in the trial of Washington area sniper suspect John Muhammad.
Today's proceedings are canceled because of an outage at the Virginia Beach courthouse.
A sheriff's spokesperson says a faulty electrical transformer is to blame.
She says it's going to take all day and all night to replace the transformer.
Court is set to resume tomorrow morning.

At least three people were injured when a bus carying a Florida A and M track team crashed along an interstate in South Carolina today.

The pair would use the same kinds of guns just six weeks later, during the shootings at Columbine that left 12 classmates and a teacher dead.

A man who falsely claimed to be Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper has admitted to extortion. 19- year- old Walter Holloway entered the guilty plea Tuesday in federal court in South Carolina.

As part of the promotional effort for the film, Elizabeth Smart's parents sat down for an interview.

The famous rink first opened in 19-36 on Christmas Day.
