Picard's trial began this morning in Rocky Mount. Jury selection is now underway.
Picard is charged with murdering Lori Metts Hodges Boyd, a Franklin County teacher's aide and bus driver.

Prosecutors say Picard's foot and fingerprints link him to the crime, but his attorneys say he touched some of the items after stumbling across them.

It's a second chance at life for a California toddler, who was found floating face down in her family's swimming pool.

But more than 40- minutes later, police detective Mike Kendrick was investigating the apparent drowning, when he noticed the girl was starting to breathe again on her own.
Mackayala was transferred to Childrens Hospital of Orange County, where a spokeswoman says she remains in critical condition.
