It was rumored for months and today it became official, the Renfro Plant in Pulaski will close early next year taking with it 315 jobs.

Renfro makes socks, including the Fruit of the Loom brand.

That seemed unthinkable more than a year ago.
After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Radford Army Ammunition Plant wanted to shut down four and a half miles of the New River for security reasons.
But many outdoorsmen opposed the plan and turned up in large numbers at public hearings.

Eventually, the Radford Arsenal compromised.
The Army recommended three levels of access based on conditions of military security.
The first and most lax level would allow unrestricted access.
The second would allow access to the river once a security checkpoint had been cleared.
The third and final level would close the river.

It was then up to the Army Corps of Engineers to approve the plan.
But more than a year after it was proposed, the permit is still under consideration in Washington D.C.

A spokesperson for the Army Corps of Engineers say it is not unusual for the permit process to take more than a year and it could be another six months or longer before it's approved.

Radford University faculty members are a step closer to bigger paychecks. At today's board of visitors meeting, the university approved a study of increased faculty salaries. The university's Academic Affairs department will report its recommendation at the February board of visitors meeting.
Reports show R-U faculty teach the most credit hours of all state colleges and universities, even though they are among the lowest paid.

Henry County investigators are still have not found a man's killer, but they have found the SUV the victim was driving.
Deputies say 28-year old Fredriquez (Fred-reek-ezz) Monzale Finney was found lying in a parking lot off V-C Drive yesterday afternoon.
He died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers later found the Ford Expedition he'd been driving off the Owens Street Extension in Henry County.

What started out as a speeding ticket turned into a police chase in Halifax County this morning.. and the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine.
State police say Trooper Travis Comer (COE-mur) tried to stop a car that was speeding on Route 58 near Turbeville.

The vehicle wrecked near the intersection with Route 836 and the driver ran.
A search of the car turned up close to two pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated 22-thousand dollars.
A suspect is now being questioned.

Local schools in many school districts make Veterans Day an annual event. They hope to instill in the students an appreciation for soldiers who've served their country in time of war. Then, the Knights Andrea Secrist is gonna make good on the kill at the net that beats the two defenders and Cave Spring was on top 19-18 in the first.
Later, Cave's Katie Morrison shows off some great defense. She makes the nice block and the ball rolls back over on to Liberty's side. Cave wins the first game 24-20 and wins the match 3 games to none and advances to the Region III semifinals.
