the suspect kept police and citizens on edge as he allegedly committed one crime after another on his way up Route 29.

(( It all began with a strong-armed robbery Wednesday afternoon at the Neighborhood Market in Lynchburg.
The suspect got away but apparently hit the Express Mart on Wards Road about twelve hours later.. forcing his way in and taking cash from the register.
Police say he then stole a van from the Guggenheimer Nursing Home parking lot and headed north on Route 29.
When the car broke down, a motorist gave him a ride to this convenience store in Nelson County, where he waited for the owners to show up.. pulled a gun on them and tried to take their vehicle.

A few minutes later a woman spotted him near her house and called police.
Deputies responded and almost had him in custody but he fought with one over the officer's gun and then escaped.

K-9 teams were called in and just after two, authorities led the man.. who was tied up with rope.. out of the woods and into custody.
He had little to say as he was brought to the sheriff's department for questioning.

Wind gusts of up to 60-miles an hour snapped trees across many local counties with Roanoke, Botetourt and Wythe some of the hardest hit.
This tree at 18th and Melrose in Roanoke fell this morning, pulling down power lines in the process. An outtage near Brambleton Avenue and Overland blacked out traffic lights. AEP says about a thousand households in the Roanoke district are without power, down from about 3-thousand this morning.

Moore says the barn roof collapsed within 15 minutes of his arrival. Four horses died in the fire. By the time the rest were rescued, Moore says, the barn was "pretty much gone." The family had just started to renovate the old barn. Moore's father, George, raised horses on the farm for about 50 years. All of his saddles, trophies and pictures were lost in the fire. Firefighters say they're not sure how the fire started.
