Good evening one and all and welcome to the postseason edition of Friday Football Extra right here on Your Hometown Station.
The Regional opened tonight with semi-final action, and not a single game was staged in the Roanoke Valley.
In the next 30 minutes or so we will bring you the highlights of all nine of tonight's game involving teams from the Friday Football Extra as we stretch out from Abingdon to Ridgeway to Hot Springs.
[GRAPHIC=BATH/EASTERN MONT]
And we begin in Bath County where the Chargers - fresh off of an unbeaten regular season - looked to take on Eastern Montgomery.
This was a battle of the number one and four seeds in Region C, division one.

[SUPER=53-Hot Springs/Eastern Montgomery vs. Bath Co.; :00]
It was so cold in Hot Springs tonight - that the folks at the Homestead Resort were able to start making snow on the ski slopes.
Even colder at Carl Williams stadium where the Chargers had to play without two-way star John Phillips who is out for the rest of the year with a torn ligament in his knee.
With John out, Jacob - who is 47-and-3 as a starting quartebrack in his career coming in - took off on the keeper and he will go 63 yards to the endzone. No one from Eastern Mont. can catch him. It's 7-to-nothing early.
The Mustangs would rally back in the second quarter after settling down. Jordan Stewart finishes it with a dive. And it's now 8-to-7 Eastern Montgomery.
Bath County would then bounce back with Phillips doing his thing later in the second. This time he scores on the 62 yard run on the optiong keeper to put Bath in front 13-to-8 after the failed conversion.
Bath would keep cranking as Phillips passes to number 5, Austin Schwend on a 38 yard pass play.
Jacob would make sure things were well in hand before halftime as he reverses field and scores his third of the half.
[SUPER=50-Eastern Montgomery/8/Bath Co./51;]
Bath County is able to win one for "Big John" tonight as the Chargers roll to the 51-to-8 final.

Next week Bath will place host to the winner of tonight's other Region C, division one semi-final between Northwood and Narrows that was played on the Green Wave's home turf at Ragsdale Field.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-Narrows/Northwood vs. Narrows; :00]
The Cheerleaders had to break out the wind suits tonight and bundle up with hats, mittens and whatever else they had in Narrows.
The Panthers go for a quick kick in the first half on 3rd down. The ball hits a linebacker for Narrows, but the Green Wave falls on it.
Narrows would then look to come back and tie the game Jake Lewis connects with John Butler for the 8 yard pass. It's good for a touchdown, but the extra point is missed. 7-to-6 Northwood on top.
Now in the third with the score the same, Lewis will give it to the 2000 yard man - Michael Farley who caps off a 77 yard drive with a touchdown. Narrows gets the 2, and the Green Wave leads 14-to-7.
The Panthers would rally all the way back in a hurry as Preston Frye brings it home from the one. But their conversion fails and it's 14-to-13 Narrows.
[SUPER=50-Northwood/21/Narrows/14;]
In the fourth - Northwood would do it with the special teams. Frye fields the Green Wave and takes it to the house. They get the TD, the two point conversion and the win. Northwood 21 and Narrows 14.

Mike, it wasn't exactly the prettiest game from an offensive standpoint, but the football purists would have loved it. There was plenty of defense as expected. The Colonels came in giving up just 10 points a game, and the Bruins just over 15 a contest.

(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-Ridgeway/Richlands vs. Magna Vista; :00]
This was Magna Vista's fifth straight playoff appearance and they strutted in loaded for bear, but instead found the Tornadoes.
With the clock running out in the first quarter - the Warriors will control the ball. From the Richlands' 45 - Matt Duffy hands off to Quentin Preston, who gets 7 yards off the right side.
A few plays later in the second quarter - Preston will take the rock through the middle, pops loose out into the open and into the endzone on a 24 yard run. The Warriors take a 7-to-nothing lead.
Magna Vista would show its strength on defense, as well. Timmy Brown is sacked for a four yard loss on this play.
The Warriors took over, and Eric Spencer takes the handoff around the right side and he will help control the clock for the home team with the nine yard gain.
The Blue Tornados would have a moment or two in this one, as Brown picks up good yardage - only to see it get wiped out by a flag.

Carroll got into the playoffs as a wildcard, and had to make the trip to Abingdon because the Falcons were the regular season champs of the Highlands district.
We had planned to have highlights of this game, but satelite problems at the uplink out of Johnson City tonight prohibited us from getting them, but Carroll did win it 27-to-21.

FC's only other playoff appearance was back in 1995.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-Collinsville/Grundy vs. Fieldale-Collinsville; :00]
The fans at Fieldale were all jucied up locked in a 27-to-27 tie in the third quarter.
The Cavs try to get the upperhand on the ground as Brandon Dillard keeps the ball around the near side and he will gather up 7 yards on the carry.
On the Cavs next possession - they would move it down in the red zone and on the first and goal - Dillard will go up the middle - only to have the ball stripped away on the one yard line.
It was still tied in the fourth - when the Golden Wave's Aaron Marcum pitched the ball to Garan Marcum - who cuts it around the left end and ride the sideline for the 24 yards before he knocked out of bounds.
Later from the nine, Theo Justice takes the snap and race around the left end for the apparent go-ahead-score, but it is called back for a holding penalty.
A couple of plays later from the 19 - on the give and go the pitch will go to Aaron Looney and he will lay out the pass to Tigh (Tie) Compton. He's wide open - and the Golden Wave takes the 34-to-27 lead.
Grundy's would then put the game on ice and Looney runs clock and the rock.

[SUPER=53-Radford/Lebanon vs. Radford; :00]
Bobcat Head coach Norm Lineburg was after this 300th career win tonight trying to join some very elite company in the state of Virginia.
After a hard fought defensive sturggle in the first half Trey Mitchell will hit this 22 yard field goal. It's his 18th of the second breaking the all-time regular season VHSL record of 17 set by Shayne Graham.
The game stayed a 3-to-nothing contest until early in the fourth when Mitchell adds to his record with a 33 yard kick.
It's now 6-to-nothin Bobcats.
But things can change in the hurry. Lebanon quarterback John McCoy hands off to Thayer White - who breaks free down the left side and he will take it 59 yards for the score. Suddenly it's a 7-to-6 gamein favor of Lebanon.
But the Bobcats would be on the prowl in the "Name of Norm" tonight.
On the 10th play of their final drive tonight, with 43 seconds left on the clock - Jush Dunbar goes right up the middle from the 17.
[SUPER=50-Lebanon/7/Radford/12;]

The other game in that Region C, division two bracket featured the defending division two state champ - George Wythe - playing host to Giles.
These two have a rich playoff history that seems to rear its head every decade.
The two played in 1993 - the year Giles was unbeaten and won the state title. The two also played in 1983 - 20 years ago.
George Wythe won that game 7-to-0.
Longtime Giles fan Edgar Moser remembers that game well, and everything else about Giles football for that matter.
In fact, he published a book on single wingers.
And one piece of trivia he points out on page 54 is that the last time Giles wore red pants on the road - was that 1983 playoff loss to the Maroons.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=53-Wytheville/Giles vs. George Wythe; :00]
No red on the legs for the Spartans as Steve Ragsdale decided not to tempt fate and George Wythe began its quest for title number 2.
The boys from Pearisburg had the upperhand early as Thomas Olinger finds the endzone from five yards out for an 8-to-nothing Giles lead after the two.
The Maroons star tailback Robert Barcliff would answer by scoring two first half TDs, including this 87 yard back breaker. George Wythe had a 12-to-8 lead midway through the second quarter.
Then Giles showed a little resiliency. Watch the play by Michael Shaver as he overthrows his target, but Matthew Clark is there to save the day to give Giles a 16-to-12 lead at the half on the TD catch.
In the third, Barcliff is determined to change that and he would do just that ripping off another huge run and giving his team the lead back 20-to-16 with the 78 yard dash to the house.
But this see-saw affair would continued as Ricky Cook and Giles score again. This time it's 22-to-20 Giles in the third quarter.
But Barcliff would work it one more time. This time he just smokes by the defense on a 76 yard gallop into the wind.
He had three TD runs of more than 76 yards and four TD dahses altogether. It's 26-to-22 through 3.
But the persistent Spartans drove down the field late and had one last shot to win with 10 seconds left.
[super=50-Giles/22/George Wythe/26;]
On fourth and seven - Shaver heaves it - Cook is there - but the pass is tipped and it falls incomplete. Geroge Wythe survives a classic with a 26-to-22 win over Giles.
