Two people are dead following an accident earlier today in Floyd County.
(---------------)

[TAKE MAP FULL] State police say it happened around 11:40 this morning on Route 221, just north of the town of Floyd. Officers say 72-year-old Lowell Lawson of Patrick Springs was traveling southbound, when he drifted across the double lines and side-swiped another car driven by Isaac Staples of Floyd County. Staples then hit another car head-on going in the opposite direction.

The driver of that car, Iris Thompson was taken to Roanoke Memorial, where she later died. Her husband, Sherman, died at the scene. Police say Lawson continued driving on the wrong side of the road, and collided with ANOTHER car driven by 16-year-old Brittnay Worrell of Copper Hill. Lawson, Worrell and Staples were all taken to area hospitals. There is no word on their conditions.
