We start in Roanoke where one man is dead tonight after being shot while sitting in his car.

Police say 23 year old William Fernando Rodriguez was found sitting in the driver's seat of his Dodge Neon with the car running and several bullet holes in the car. The shooting occured on 17th Street just north of Patterson Avenue. The victim's brother said Rodriquez was at a friend's house playing video games before the shooting. Initial reports were that a car was seen leaving the scene through an alley a half a block away. Rodriguez's body was sent to the Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Lynchburg police are treating the discovery of the body of woman near downtown as a homicide.

That's where the body of a white female, believed to be in her 30's, was found behind the old Lynchburg Steam Bakery building.
Authorities say the area has been a hangout for homeless people.

Two men were shot and transfered to Danville Regional Medical Center. 29 year old Lynndell Powell, of Hurt was pronounced dead on arrival. A 16 year old was treated and released for a leg wound. A nearby resident says she heard the shots and then saw everyone scatter.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

A Martinsville man is in the hospital after being shot in a local park.
Officials say 19 year old Anthony Javon Waller was shot several times last night at the city's Reservoir picnic shelter.
Police say Waller was shot in the head, shoulder and back. He is being treated at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
18 year old Joseph Chad Lockett is charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm.
Lockett is being held without bond in the Henry County Jail.

An accident last night in Floyd County killed two people, and sent three to the hospital. Police say a 17 year old was driving a pickup truck on Route 221 around 11 o'clock when he crossed the center line and hit a car head on. 19 year old Johnathan Lynwood Quintrell of Rocky Mount and his fianc� 19 year old Megan Dawn Hall were both killed.

Neither were wearing seat belts. Their children, a 3 year old boy and a one month old girl were treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car, 20 year old Terri Lynn Plunkett of Hardy was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. There is no word on the condition of the driver of the pickup, who is not being identified because of his age and pending charges.

Tough economic times have left hundreds of southside residents without health insurance. Today many of those people attended a Martinsville health fair, along with Governor Mark Warner. The bombs went off within minutes of each other outside police stations in towns near Baghdad. The military says they appear to have been coordinated. Six police officers are dead and ten civilians hurt during the first attack. Six more police officers were killed in the other attack, along with three civilians, including a five year old girl.

It was a close vote with five tipping the scales in favor. The bill has already been sent to the Senate, where debate is expected to last three days. The new plan would give prescription drug coverage to 40 million seniors, but starting in 2006 they will have to switch to a private health care provider.

A controversial part of the package that would limit access to outpatient therapies has been altered in the final bill. A two year moratorium has been put on a rule that would limit physical and speech therapy to only 15 hundred dollars per year.

The Cave Spring Knights are the state double A volleyball champs for a second straight year. Today, they knocked off Jefferson Forest 3 games to one avenging last week's loss to the Cavaliers in the regional finals.

Roanoke's Visitor Center rolled out a warm welcome to the public today.

A re- renovated N & W Railway Passenger Station is now home to the center. The station was built in 1905, but currently dons the look it had in the '40's. Roanoke's tourism director says the station is an appropriate home for the visitor center because historically, it served as the gateway to western Virginia.

In January the O. Winston Link Museum will move into the station. The visitor center is open from 9 to 5, seven days a week. (------------)
