Officials say 19 year old Anthony Javon Waller was shot several times last night at the city's Reservoir picnic shelter.
Police say Waller was shot in the head, shoulder and back. He is being treated at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

18 year old Joseph Chad Lockett is charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm.
Authorities say Lockett ran from the scene, but was later found at his home.
The gun used was found in a wooded area off of Nibblett Drive in Henry County.
Lockett is being held without bond in the Henry County Jail.

The bodies of two children missing in Buchanan County have been found.
Officials say they mobilized everyone they could to help find the two children swept away by flood waters.

Yesterday, searchers found the bodies of four year old Kayley Runyon and two year old Christian Runyon.
The two disappeared after a culvert holding back a swollen creek gave way. The floodwaters swept away five homes and pulled the children from their parents arms.
Nearby residents were able to save the parents.

A group of hikers is rescued after getting lost on an area trail.

It happened at Dragon's Tooth on the Appalachian Trail off Route 3-11.
Five hikers - who are in their twenties - called 9-1-1 after dark.
It took nearly two hours and eight rescurers on A-T-V's to locate the group on top of the mountain.
They were not wearing jackets but had started a fire to keep warm.

Crews responded to the Gibson Pallet Company around two o'clock Friday afternoon.
It is located on Lynch Mill Road just off Route 43 near Alta Vista.
Firefighters believe a woodchipper caught fire which then spread to a twenty foot chip pile.
Crews quickly knocked down the fire but say it could take days, maybe weeks before the fire is completely out.

The House has approved a Medicare bill with a landmark prescription drug entitlement.

Roanoke Memorial and Community Hospital nurses were awarded Magnet Recognition yesterday by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The honor is bestowed upon hospitals that provide the highest level of care and promote excellence in the field of nursing.
There is only one other Magnet hospital in Virginia and less than one- percent of all U-S hospitals are accredited.
The application process took two years and nurses say they couldn't be happier.
