Family members and friends gathered at Fort Eustis near Newport News to welcome them.
While in Kuwait, the battalion conducted port support operations.

Another unit returned to Fort Lee near Petersburg.
The two dozen soldiers of the 54th Quartermaster Mortuary unit have spent last eight months in Iraq.

A poet and distinguished professor at Virginia Tech is now a Grammy nominee.
Yesterday, the Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection was named one of five finalists for the Best Spoken Word Album.
Giovanni has taught writing and literature at Virginia Tech since 1987.
The Grammys will be awarded February 8th in Los Angeles.
