A six year old Rocky Mount girl suffered minor injuries after falling off a float yesterday in in the Retail Merchants Christmas Parade. Police say Mykala Coles and about six other children were riding on a float in the parade when Coles fell off, and one of the float's wheels ran over her legs. Coles was taken to the hospital. She sustained only scrapes and bruises.

Four people were sent to the hospital after an early morning shooting in Danville.
Police say shots were fired from the parking lot at Mister T's restaurant in the 400 block of South Ridge Street shortly after 3-o'clock. Four men were wounded. Three of the victims were treated at Danville Regional Medical Center and later released. The other, who was shot in the leg, is in stable condition. So far, no arrests have been made.

Specialist Dan Sweeney arrived home yesterday on a 14- day leave from Iraq. The 24- year- old is an Army Reservist out of Galax. He's been on active duty for the past eleven-months and says he was thrilled to land in Virginia and see snow.

Sweeney's four- year- old daughter, Destiny, was one of his many greeters at the airport. In the Army, Sweeney works on a fuel hauling truck, and services tanks. He says his heart goes out to the families who've lost loved ones in the war and hopes they can find comfort in the knowledge that all fallen soldiers were doing the "right thing."

A local Motorcycle group and the Marine Corps teamed up to make sure some kids are not forgotten this holiday season.

The Grigg's family were washed out of their home by last month's rain, which caused widespreading flooding in the New River Valley. Even though, the waters never touched the Grigg's home, it washed out the bridge that provides the only access to the their home.
