He hasn't seen his family since he left Franklin County with his National Guard unit in April.

He got called up for duty in February, along with the other members of the 10-32nd transportation company in Rocky Mount.
He brought home a purple heart, which he received after being injured by enemy fire in July.

Closing arguments are scheduled this afternoon in Chesapeake in the trial of sniper suspect Lee Malvo.

Yesterday, the prosecution presented witnesses to contradict the defense's claim that 18- year- old Malvo didn't know right from wrong.
A psychologist also testified that convicted sniper John Muhammad ``had a tremendous influence'' on Malvo, but didn't brainwash him as the defense has claimed.
Malvo's on trial for killing an F-B-I analyst.
He faces the death penalty if he's convicted.

A six year old girl was assaulted at the Blacksburg Public Library.
The incident happened last Tuesday.
Library officials say a man lured the girl into an area out of the view of workers.
He then pulled down her pants and fondled her.
The girl was not injured.
Police are still searching for a suspect.
The library officials say they are increasing security and will post notices telling parents not to leave their children unattended.

Virginia Tech is reminding employees with state issued credit cards, the cards are for travel only.
The reminder comes after a recent state audit showed several state employees are abusing the travel cards by charging things like massages, liquor and lingerie.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit in the wake of last month's surprise drug raid at a South Carolina high school.

The lawsuit is on behalf of 20 of the students who say they were terrorized by police and a drug- sniffing dog.
One of the students is 15- year- old Nate Smalls.
He says police had their guns drawn when they told him to get on the ground.

He found himself stuck waist deep in a swamp, and had to use his cellphone for help.
However, the help soon needed help themselves, because faulty directions and difficult terrain made the rescue attempt more dangerous than expected.
A U- S Coast Guard helicopter was called in to help, eventually removing the hunter and the rescue party from the swamp.
Hill, was air- lifted to a local hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Eagles got their ninth straight victory with last night's win over Miami. They set the tone when Donovan McNabb completed a 59-yard pass on the game's first play. That set up Brian Westbrook's 21-yard touchdown run just 71 seconds into the game.
The Dolphins later tied the game 24-to-24 on Ricky Williams' three-yard run in the third quarter.
But the Eagles broke away in the 4th to win it 34 to 27.
The 11-and-3 Eagles share the N-F-C lead with St. Louis. The Dolphins are 8-and-6, one game behind Denver for the final A-F-C play-off position.
