Reid is on death row for the murder of Annie Lester. Reid was Lester's handyman. On October 12 of 1996 he hit her over the head with a can, strangled her with a telephone cord, stabbed her 22-times with a pair of scissors and tried to rape her.
He entered an alford plea to the crime in 1997, meaning he acknowledged the state's evidence-- without admitting guilt. Reid's new attorney, Jimmy Turk says the trial lawyers mishandled the case and lied to Reid. Turk says that's reason enough for a stay of execution.
