(( Police initially responded to the Caru Apartments on Bennett Drive shortly after 2-o'clock. 23 year old Neesha Edwards told them a man she had previously been in a relationship with was trying to kill her. Police were back at the apartments shortly after 4-o'clock, after Edwards was shot dead inside of a car. 26 year old Carl Lamonte Richardson, also known as Khalif Fareed Abdul-Mateen, was arrested a few hours after the shooting and charged with murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Roanoke City Jail. Edwards was a cosmetology student at the BarPalma Beauty Careers Academy. School officials say they called police after Richardson showed up on the campus on Wednesday.

Another man, 22 year old Shawn Webb of Roanoke was wounded in the shooting. He is listed in fair condition at Roanoke Memorial Hosptial.

A Chesapeake jury found Lee Boyd Malvo guilty on two capitol murder counts.
Malvo's expression had often been animated throughout the trial, but he had a blank look on his face when the verdict was read.
Relatives of the sniper victims patted each other on the shoulders as the verdict was made public.

(( Reid was scheduled to die by lethal injection tonight for the 1996 murder of Annie Lester, an 87-year-old Christiansburg woman.
A federal appeals court issued a stay late yesterday based on Reid's claim that lethal injection constitutes cruel and unusual punishment given his medical condition.
His argument is similar to an Alabama case currently before the United State Supreme Court.
Despite the stay, correction officials say they must be prepared to carry out the scheduled execution.
Reid was given an opportunity this afternoon to meet with his family, attorneys and spiritual advisors.
And he was served what might or might not be his last meal.
Some legal experts say a final resolution in this case may be months away.

An accident on Interstate 64 early this morning took the life of a truck driver and sent mail flying.
State Police say 47 year old Forrest Boggs of Greenbrier County, West Virginia was carrrying a truckload of mail, when the rig ran off the interstate and flipped between two bridges.
The accident scattered mail along the highway near Covington, so the postal service came in to salvage as much as it could.

Senator George Allen is helping a local University reach a new goal.

Mahan suffered a brain aneurysm this past Thursday and was taken to UVa medical center where he underwent emergency surgery. Mahan died in his sleep sometime between last night and this morning.
Mahan led Cave Spring to five straight Roanoke Valley District titles. After some time away from coaching he took over at Hidden Valley and led the Titans to the state tournament in the school's first year of soccer competition. Mahan coached many great players including ACC all tournament team selection and former Knight John Hartman.
