It's the baseball that was about to be caught in "Game Six" of the National League Championship Series, and would have had Chicago just four outs away from a victory. But when a Cubs' fan deflected it away, Florida rallied to win that game and the next one, to reach the World Series.
Anyway, the baseball went up for auction last night, and the owners of Harry Caray's restaurant, named for the late Cubs announcer, paid 106-thousand dollars for it. They don't want the ball to become a trophy that is rubbed in Cubs fans' noses, so they plan to destroy it in late February. Just how remains to be determined.
