Virginia is under heightened security following reports that Al Qaeda may be plotting another attack on the state.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Rappahannock County, Virginia is the target of a potential terrorist plot.
U-S counter-terrorism officials have picked up intelligence about a specific threat against the small county in Northern Virginia.
Rappahannock County is believed to be the location of several top secret government facilities.
In response to the increased threat level, Governor Warner says additional state troopers are on patrol.

A shooting in Northwest Roanoke sent three people to the hospital last night.

Officers responded to the Laurel Ridge apartments off of Shenandoah Avenue just after 10:30 PM.
Police say five people went to the apartment of an acquaintance, 25 year old Jesse Allen Butler.
An argument led to an exchange of gunfire.
Police recovered one handgun. No one has been charged.

23 year old Matthew Ryan Anderson of Radford is recovering at the UVA Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest.
25 year old Mitchell Samuel Anderson also of Radford was treated and released from Roanoke Memorial.
25 year old Bradford Powers of Salem is in fair condition at Roanoke Memorial after he was shot in the shoulder.

Meanwhile in Lynchburg, one man is hospitalized, another is being sought by police after an apparent gang-related shooting last night.
Police say around ten, 23-year-old Kevin DeWayne Napier (NAY-pee-ur) was shot several times in the groin and abdomen near the corner of 16th and Taylor Streets.
He's in critical condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Authorities believe the shooter was 19-year-old Chase Jeffrey Irvine.
Anyone with information should call the Lynchburg police.

Peggy Hartman says her brother Leslie had been living with diabetes for the past four years.
She says he was able to control his illness through scheduled doctor visits and medication.
But all of that ceased, Hartman says, the day Gross was taken into custody at the Roanoke County-Salem jail.

It appears residents of one Lynchburg neighborhood may have to wait a little longer than usual if they call for emergency fire or medical help on Christmas Day.

Manpower shortages in the Lynchburg fire department have apparently led the city to close Station Number Two on Grace Street for a day.
A handmade sign outside the station informs residents about the closure and suggests they call City Hall about it.
But city manager Kim Payne says he's had "no" phone calls about the shutdown.
The head of the firefighters union says a combination of vacation time, sick leave and lack of personnel is the problem.
Art Lipscomb says the city often is forced to take equipment out of service because there isn't enough manpower to run it.
Firefighters took their concerns about personnel and pay issues to city council last week.
