Preliminary reports indicate inmates in one of the cells were able to remove the face plate off an old electrical outlet. They then used the wires to heat something and that's when some nearby papers were ignited. One inmate then tried to put the fire out using a bed sheet and then realized additional help was needed. The inmates used an emergency intercom system to notify staff who extinguished the fire. All inmates in the affected pod were moved to another section and examined for smoke inhalation. Officials say smoke is problematic in a jail because they're not able to open the windows. Authorities say disciplinary action will be taken against the inmate who started the fire. He or she may also face criminal charges.
